Planning a trip to South Sulawesi soon? Here’s the full itinerary that you can refer to, in order to experience the best of South Sulawesi!
Day 1: Arrival
We arrived at 11:30 AM in Makassar, took a DAMRI bus and headed for lunch at the centre of the city.
After performing our prayers, we took a red pete-pete/minibus/angkot to the Malangkeri Bus Terminal. At the terminal, we managed to find an SUV car to take us to our accommodation in Bara Beach.

Day 2: Tanjung Bira, Pulau Kambing & Liukang Loe
After having breakfast at BaraCoco Bungalows (where we stayed), we decided to rent a boat to Pulau Kambing and Liukang Loe. We snorkelled, had lunch, and chilled at the beach.
Before sunset, we walked from Bara Beach to Tanjung Bira (it was low tide). The view of the sunset was magnificent! We couldn’t find anything to eat at Tanjung Bira, so we walked back to our accommodation to have dinner.

Day 3: Selayar Island
The ferry from the Bira Port to Selayar Island departed just before 10 AM and we arrived at the Selayar Harbor at 12 PM. We were lucky to meet a local who offered us a ride to the main town of Banteng! 🙂
Once we arrived at Selayar Eco Resort, we rented a motorcycle and explored some parts of the island.

Day 4: Coral & Bahuluang Islands
At 9:30 AM, we rode our rented motorcycle to the last village in the south of Selayar, Appatana Village, which took 1.5 hours. Then, we hopped on a boat to Pulau Karang (Coral Island) and Bahuluang Islands. We spent the whole day snorkelling and enjoying the beach over there and went back around 3.30 PM. This is a MUST visit!

Day 5: Makassar
We had our last breakfast at the Selayar Eco Resort before we took an early morning Wings Air flight back to Makassar from Selayar Island for only Rp. 311,000 per person! The journey takes about half an hour.
In Makassar, we took a DAMRI bus to the Lapangan Karebosi and took a pete-pete/minibus to our hotel at LA’RIZ Wthree Lagaligo Makassar. The hotel is very comfortable and there are many eateries around here. Minibuses pass the main streets nearby this hotel so our transportation was very easy to manage.
Our only purpose in Makassar was to try local food. So that’s exactly what we did! Here is the list of foods we tried when we were in the city: Makassar: 5 Halal Foods You Must Try
