Wow..a very interesting experience. Unbelievable your english is quite amazing! I've been living in a multicultural commnity for almost three years here in the US. I used to live with 13 people with 13 different accents...he...he..one of them was from Australia. Now you can compare British English, American English and Aussie English...It's just amazing to know so many people from different cultures and backgrounds. Keep writing Amellie!

oy mel, thanks so much.
but no worries about my question, coz i have the same problem/benefit.
Norway, like your mother said, has not so many indonesian. and the fact that i am studying in the northmost university in the world, makes me so isolated from the student society. But i am quiet updated with the indonesian activity here, ever since there are only 2 other indonesian student..hahaha.i am also living with 4 other students with different nationalities. it's so fun! but their english ae understandable, what's difficult is the east african english. however, my english is more to spanglish now-eversince i hang out with spanish for too many times..hehe

n even in online society, i'm trying not to stay too long chatting with other indonesian. well, sometimes i feel bad, but Lord knows that i have same intention like you do.i'd rather use the time to gain knowledge by just talking on nothing with bule in english to make me more open mind with diversities, or enjoy my presence in norway, with the snow, sun...

it's very amazing to read how eager your parents were to give you the best education. parents are always toughtfull yah, especially when it comes to lifetime investment like this.your father, must be blessed by Allah so much, justru by his faith on rizki from Allah that somehow he will manage to get money for your education.send regards for them dear-:).

it's so nice to read ur different story. because i always kinda think it's weird to study in australia with so many other indonesian. i heard there's a class in NUS which students are all indonesian. HAH??? no wonder when people get back from studying abroad, they dont always have english like you -:) or some even not experiencing any shifted mentality.
duh why do i sounds so synical..
no, i dont mean to. i just feel lucky for being out of nowhere-though i complained in the beginning for living so far away up here alone-but i can feel it as blessing now. you are you, and even learn more about your self when you are on your own.

"But so far I never received any discrimination that directly mention my nationality."

How can any discrimination mention your nationality directly?

*please forgive my poor TOEFL score.

Thanks everyone for your nice words :)
mulia: I do want to go to Norway!!! Huhuhu... :D You're so lucky to be there.. though i think i'd not enjoy living without the sun :D. ah, ya.. I remember when I was in Jakarta, I took an English course. There was a guy who apparently had studied in US for a year or so... and he was in jakarta for vacation. at the same time... he enrolled to the English course too!!! Soooo unbelievable. His english was just OK. wasn't good enough for a person who had lived in the States. That incident opened my eyes.. seriously.. I don't want to go to Australia and when i come back, i can't really speak the language!! Why should i capek2 belajar di aussie?? kenapa gak belajar di indo aja hehehe... it's time and money consuming :D
ina: mbak, selamat yah.. udah dapet PR.. duh kapan yah aku bisa mampir hehe. Duitnya belum ada nih :D
ikram: you solved it already.. to quote what u said: "But so far I never received any discrimination that CAME directly AFTER I mention my nationality." HAHAHA :P Thanks for that ;)

Dear Amelie,

Wishing your further quest would be smooth and should there be challenges to meet are totally under control as you have done those others in the past. Hugs and kisses from West Africa, I just got back from vacation.

Dear Amillie and Luigi,
I have sat about 5 times the IELTS but always got scored 6.0 for every sections. How can I improve my score. I did a lot of exercise and practise. I have attended phonetic class as well as Grammar and speaking (Intermediate) at Eng. Language Centre. How can I improve?. I found that in order to get a better score in Writing suppose to use "native-sentence" in writing. Do you have any information about it. I have to get at atleast score 6.5 for enrol to the degree program

totduck: I think you have to practice more frequently. Writing blog in English like I do is certainly going to help and improve your English. Speaking English everyday is also essential, at least for me. Watching movies without subtitles also works for me. I think the most effective way to learn English is to go to English-speaking countries :D . But I know it's expensive... sigh. Good luck for your IELTS! Keep trying! ;)

P.S. about writing... hmm the style of formal writing is totally different to the one I'm using right now... so YES, you have to practice on that one in order to get a better score for IELTS essay. I'm pretty sure that there're so many resources about essay/report writing on the net.. so do search those. Start writing using more "unusual" or sophisticated words... hehehehe.

Speaking English everyday is also essential, at least for me. Watching movies without subtitles also works for me. I think the most effective way to learn English is to go to English-speaking countries . But I know it’s expensive… sigh. Good luck for your IELTS! Keep trying!
P.S. about writing… hmm the style of formal writing is totally different to the one I’m using right now… so YES, you have to practice on that one in order to get a better score for IELTS essay. I’m pretty sure that there’re so many resources about essay/report writing on the net.. so do search those. Start writing using more “unusual” or sophisticated words… hehehehe.
