The Second

@ 8:41 pm | 16 comments

A few days ago, I had a conversation with my boss. He suddenly said, “You know what? You are the second female developer who work here, out of 500 employees, since the company was founded 20 years ago.” WHAT??? The second female developer!!! Hahahaha… I know that there are very few women who study in IT, but I thought the number should not be too far compared to the number of IT guys. It is amazing to hear it. Then my boss said that a few years ago, the Australian IT association (forgot the name) held a dance party (HAHAHA). All of the men were ‘lining up’ to dance with one of the 3 girls who attended the party. Hehehe… it’s quite frustrating, isn’t it? :P

Ever since I arrived in Brisbane about a week ago, I’ve been working full-time from 9.30 am to 4 pm (if I’m lucky enough, if not then until 6 pm) Monday to Friday. I get tired so easily everytime I come home. I believe I sleep enough — 7 hours, but all I want is lying on the bed hehehe. Weekend is like a relaxing day, spending my free time at home — reading books, watching DVDs, and of course cleaning the entire house! My days so far are in some ways exciting and challenging. I enjoy what I do at work, though at first I was a bit panic, didn’t know what to do. I’m doing my first real project using SQL Server. I met the clients (whom I found to be very friendly and funny!) and accompanied my boss for the project’s presentation to get a better understanding on the marketing and business sides of the project. To be honest, marketing and business are not something I’m interested at, but my boss always emphasises that IT people must understand not only the technical stuff, but also the marketing and business stuffs…

I went to the Southbank cinema a few days ago with Mayu and Yui to watch Casino Royale. I was quite busy at the office that time and my brain was going to explode real soon. So I thought it’d be better if I could spend a night to entertain myself. But you know.. I always did something stupid. Perhaps my brain was as old as grandma’s brain, I had no idea. I was the one who asked my friends to watch a movie with me, set the meeting time, and picked the movie… but I was the one who came LATE! I didn’t know what happened, I just suddenly forgot that I had an appointment with them at 5.30 pm! I left the office at 5 pm, took a train heading towards my house, put my laptop and dressed up for 10 minutes, waited for the next train — but there was an announcement that the train would be late due to a freakin signal problem, so I took the bus at last to the cinema. The movie started at 6.16 pm and I was late for 5 minutes. Thank God it hadn’t started! :D Anyway, the movie was not too bad, at least it’s great for my brain hehehe.

I went through a couple of websites, thinking about what I should do for the next few weeks. I need a break, I need to treat myself to see something nice. So I thought watching an orchestra or musical theatre would be very nice. But whoaaa… the price was just not nice to me! :P I’ve always wanted to see some performances, but it always never happened. Well, I can afford paying for the entry ticket, but I guess… it’s worth more if I use that money for computer & electronic stuffs, or maybe save it for future hehehe. Somebody wants to buy me a ticket? :P

Wow, quite amazing what you’ve got there. Approximately, couple days ago, I found out there is a bizarre blog about a finnis girl on NY (sorry, got no clue to her link anymore). She said, it’s difficult to find a man and politeness in The Apple. Neither in London, some folks on reality shows called Love Island complained how difficult to find a man there.

    But Brisbane?
I guess those girls supposed to go there then. :)

Anyway, nice blog design. I like it.

Firza & Alay: I don’t think I’m a geek :D . I’m not pretending to be one. I’m already like this since I was a kid… IT is my passion and it’s something that I want to do for a long time… Why do I have to do something else when I enjoy doing it?? :D My life is not only about IT…

ikram: Hahaha. I don’t think so. Up til now, I didn’t receive any ticket!!! LOL

BARRY: I believe it’s not so much about a gender discrimination. It’s because we have a very few female IT graduates… especially in Australia.

    Arif Kurniawan: Thanks :)

Oskar Syahbana: Hmm the movie doesn’t use a lot of hi-tech gadgets anymore.. so I’m a bit dissappointed by that :P

I think your boss is right, you should know about marketing and the business aspect of IT, at least a little bit.

oh ya, anyway, boss kamu bener tuh mel, IT people jangan cuma ngerti technical stuffs aja, tapi harus ngerti bisnis dan marketingnya. Karena biasanya IT itu di implentasi untuk mendukung itu. Jadi kalau implementasinya tidak mendukung bisnis, bakal cuma jadi waste of resources and money. But you probably know this already hehehehe :D
