Shocking moments

The world was stunned when Steve Irwin was announced dead a few days ago. I was SOOoO shocked! Everyone was shocked!! I couldn’t believe this happened! I mean, he’s a great guy. I know that I don’t have a good connection with animals, but I’m happy of what he has done to the wildlife animals. He has this big passion on them. And that’s what I like about him. He threw away his money just to improve the lives of these animals. My roommate, Mayu was even more shocked than I was. She loves wildlife animals and she is currently doing wildlife’s major at UQ. She was planning to be a volunteer in Australia Zoo so that she could take care of them. Her friend worked in the Zoo before, and she said Steve Irwin’s a nice man. But unfortunately, he left this world too soon.

I was also told that my former High School’s teacher, bu Rossy (or MamRos) just got a terrible news. Her husband had a car (or was it a motorcyle?) accident. As a result, he had to undergo a costly operation; one of his fingers were almost cut off. His operation reportedly costed close to Rp. 10 millions. She couldn’t pay that amount of money, so MamRos paid it using a credit card. It really saddened me, as MamRos was one of the most favourite teachers at my school, Madania. Thank God, the news spread so quickly, not only among my friends, but also among my seniors and juniors. So all Madania’s alumni residing in Jakarta decided to help her. Mangkal alone got about Rp. 3 millions! Wow!!! I couldn’t believe it!! Mangkal consists of only 70 people, you know? That’s a huge amount of money for a small group of people :D. But anyway, I always wish the best for MamRos and her family.

Another shocking moment was: I got a job!!! I’m telling you, it happened sooo quick. It was unbelievable! I didn’t expect that it’d be that fast.

Ok, so I sent my resume/cv via email to an IT company on Saturday. And the boss replied me back on Monday, asked me whether or not I could go for the interview on Tuesday! I was a little bit nervous.. although I learnt Java, C, PHP, etc.. I can’t consider myself as an expert.. not even closed to advanced maybe!!! The stuffs that are taught at Uni are pretty basic. So I’m scared if he’d expect me to know many things… I also feared that he’d be surprised to find out that I’m a Moslem and wear hijab! I didn’t want this bigotry thing happened again. So I was a little nervous.

But when I entered the office and met the CEO, I was surprised that he asked me just a couple of questions… e.g. why did I choose IT (which is something I frequently explain to other people). Then, after he explained briefly about the company, he said.. “Ok, I’ll give you the contract paper to sign.” What??? Was I dreaming? I thought it’d be so hard!! :D I’m soooo grateful!! Alhamdulillah!!! Thank You, Allah SWT… for giving me such a smooth day.

Then I met 2 guys who just started working too. One of them looks familiar to me and apparently he’s doing 2 same courses as I’m. Three of us are going to be trained so that we’re familiar with the company and tricks before we face a big project. We’re only paid when we receive our real project, but that’s not a problem with me… as I only want some IT experiences before I graduate.

The office is located in Milton, which is soooo closed to where I live. I only have to take a train once. The work environment itself is so casual. That’s what I like about it. The boss is so nice; he treats me with respect and doesn’t expect us to be an expert. He wants us to learn and work hard. He’s quite flexible with the days/hours we can work; he doesn’t want to mess our Uni schedule up. I only go there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So hopefully that’ll not make me stressed hahaha.

I also applied for a volunteer work for the upcoming annual Queensland Multicultural Festival which is held by the Queensland Government. It’s a one day event (Sunday), so hopefully it won’t disturb my Uni assessments. There’s no requirement to be a volunteer of the event, which is quite strange.. I didn’t even have to send any resume. So, it’ll be randomly picked I guess??? Hahaha. Wish me another luck!! :)

About Irwin, yes it’s a bit shock. But that is the consequence of what he did. He did many too dangerous things. He’s too brave I think. But still, it shocked me.

About the job, congratulations! And I do wish you luck with the upcoming annual festival :)
