I’m eating strawberries now!! Yummy hehehhe… Yeah, it’s strawberry season back here in Australia. It’s quite cheap around $2.50. Coles sell a very very sweet strawberry!!! I was so surprised when I ate it! I haven’t eaten any strawberries like this one hehehe..
Luv ‘em.
I used to hate INFS (Information System) courses. Yes, I hate them!! I feel it’s just a waste of time to study about the theories behind it.. ER Diagrams, DFD, Relational Algebra… I just want to go straight to SQL! That’s it! I thought INFS is just about database which is SQL-only application. But hell, no!
As time goes by, I think I appreciate INFS more than before. It started with a team project that I’ve been doing in this semester (for the course COMP1800). As y’all know, we’ve been told to make an e-commerce website using features like php, css, and javascripts. Creating a database is (unfortunately) part of the project. So yesterday (as usual) we had a team meeting, we discussed about the layout of each pages, user tasks eg. login, logout, etc., and database structure. I found out that ER diagrams are soooooooo useful!!! Especially when we’re still in the planning process – it makes everything so easy. Now I know why I need to study such topics: DFD & ER diagrams. I could not be more thankful to my lecturer…
I looked at my IT degree plans two days ago. I planned to take a Software Design major. But now I’m reconsidering my choice. I’m kinda confused. None of the 3rd year courses (the one started with 3) interested me. I like programming, but I don’t like to study about a deeper “things” like compilers and software processes. I know that sounds silly (and I know that it’s sooo important!), but I honestly don’t like it! Unfortunately, in order to choose a major, I have to take 3 third-year courses which are electives for major. I know that I only have to do 3 courses, but now I’m kinda interested in INFS!! haha.. I’ve read some of their course profiles, and those courses will cover stuff like XML, SOAP, DTD, and other web-based applications. Those topics are the one I’m interested in. So I’m considering to take two majors at a time. Maybe I can do more courses in major information system and less course for software design. I don’t know if I can do it. I’d have to ask the academic advicer later.
I actually may graduate without a specified major, but I prefer to have one. I think it’s better to be like that, esp in the future, when u want to get a job. If I ended up with only one choice, I’ll probably choose software design. Coz that’s what IT is all about! IT people must know about software and those kind of stuff..! If I’m majoring in Software Design, I’ll still be able to take some of INFS courses for the electives – so it doesn’t make much difference though…
