Hotel California

Have u ever heard this song?? It was so famous back in 1980′s maybe heuehuehe.. forgot.. it was sung by the Eagles. The only thing i know about them is the vocalist was also the drummer of the band. Anyway, a few days ago Mayuko asked me about the meaning behind this song. Coz she noticed something unusual, she even referred it as a “ghost song” hehehe.. Jenny and I were like, naaaahhh.. it’s not meant to be like that. But when I read the lyrics of the song… hmmm quite scary!

Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice
And she said ‘We are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers, they gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
‘Relax,’ said the night man, we are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave!

Then I did some kind of research on the net. There were a lot of rumours back then about the meaning of Hotel California. Here they are:

  • The song is a tale of a weary traveler who becomes trapped in a nightmarish hotel that at first appeared tempting; as a metaphor the song may be commenting on drug addiction or simply the decadent lifestyle the hugely successful band had been caught up in. A reference to drugs is found in the line “Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air.” Colitas is the name of the buds found on Marijuana plants. The psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, Tetrahydrocannabinol, is abbreviated THC, suggesting another link with “The Hotel California,” which is never mentioned in the song without the “The.”
  • Some Fundamentalist Christians, especially in the United States, believe that the song contains elements of Satanism and that the band members themselves were responsible for it; some say the album cover includes an image of Anton LaVey.
  • In California the ‘Church of Satan’ is registered under the name ‘Hotel California.’

But it’s just a myth.. Read: Urban Legends & Wikipedia. I’m sooo lazy to copy-paste! hehe

the song goes back into 70′s. song is not creepy but tells a story of a wonderer. amellie interpretation of the story behind the song is i suppose right. however, i prefer the theme of this guy going into hell while driving aong the highway, probably through accident or maybe slip into the demension of hell for all the bad he has done. i’ve always wish someone would make a movie of it. this will forever be recognisible both young and old …like me
