A life in a different world…

@ 5:47 am | No comments

I think I’m getting bored of the way people live in Jeddah. I do the same activities of what I did last week. Play basketball, playstation 2, or even computer; watch TV and movies, eat! What else? I haven’t been out since I arrived here. I wanna go to malls and shopping. But my dad has been so busy this whole month, so I guess I can’t ask him to drop me by. But yeah, that’s how we live in Jeddah.

It’s so damn lucky to be a man here. Guys tend to be dominant; they are leaders of the family as well as decision-makers. Although I’ve lived here for about 11 years, I still don’t agree of how the Saudi culture treats the women here. It’s not fair at all! While men can do anything and everything they want, women do not have such freedoms that men have. They are not allowed to drive, have some positions in labor market, be mixed with other men outside their families, or even n some traditional families- choose their own loves as their husbands. They have to accept the fact that their families arrange their marriages. It’s their strict culture (plus, their religion) that makes them live like that. But hello??? This is 21st Century! Men are equal to women. Women are no longer housewives that always agree and accept whatever their husbands think. Women are leaders too. They have their own rights to fulfill their lives. They are not supposed to be placed in “jails”.

I’m lucky that I have a family who gives me a freedom to do whatever I want; as long as I haven’t gone too far from my religion. I can study whenever is possible and have a normal life like other people. Not because I wear a headscarf I’m not able to pursue my dreams. Some of my friends who live in Jeddah are not allowed to continue their study overseas although their families are quite wealthy. I can’t understand why their families have this kind of opinion. Education is very important not only for guys, but also for girls. There is no limit to acquire a knowledge. No matter how old you are; as long as you have a will, you have the rights to get an education as high as possible….
